# How to Use Custom Comment Statuses

> Replace the default Open, In Progress and Resolved workflow with statuses that match how your team actually works.

Out of the box, comments move through the default statuses. If your team's workflow has more stages, for example **Awaiting Client**, **In Development**, or **Ready for QA**, you can add your own custom statuses. They appear everywhere statuses do: on the comment on the page, in the sidebar, and as columns on the Kanban board.

## Turn on custom statuses

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to Settings, then Advanced Features">
    Under **Comment Settings**, turn on the **Custom comment statuses** toggle. A status editor appears.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Create your statuses">
    Add each status with a name and a color, and arrange them in the order your workflow moves through them. Your statuses become columns on every project board.

  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Custom statuses are available on paid plans. While custom statuses exist, the feature cannot be switched off; delete the custom statuses first.
</Note>

## Add a status directly from the board

On any project's Kanban board, hover between two columns and click the **+** zone to create a new status right where you want the column. You can also drag columns to reorder them.

## Deleting a status

When you delete a custom status that still has comments in it, Superflow asks you where to move those comments, so nothing gets lost.

<Tip>
  Keep the list short. Five or six columns is the sweet spot; beyond that, cards stop moving and the board stops telling you anything.
